Forum Community Project Bid

The Kingstanding Forum, on being offered the opportunity to compete with five other Forums in the Birmingham area for financial assistance to prepare a sustainable project which would enhance aspects of health and safety issues in the Kingstanding ward, have enthusiastically accepted the challenge. As the format of the project that the Forum adopt is to benefit the community as a whole all residents are invited to post their comments on kingstaning4u blog site. If the Forum are successful a financial reward of £10000 will be made available to put the project into action. comments are also welcomed to email gary.sambrook@googlemail.com the Kingstanding Forum Chairman.

Welcome to the blog site which, as ever, is 4u, young old and all residents of Kingstanding. Some things never change. You can please some of the people some of the time but you can not please all of the people all of the time. But to help all people involved in groups and agencies concerned with the infrastructure in place in kingstanding use this blog to let them know what you think.

We would also ask anyone who may have any old photographs of Warren Farm Island particularly any showing the pre-fabs which existed on the island post war which we may borrow or copy.

Community watch patrol

Another successful community watch walk took place on Tuesday 21st November and dates and times of next walks are as follows:

Friday 1st December at 7:0pm
Monday 11th December at 7:0 pm
Thursday 21st December at 7:0 pm- SHORT ROUTE and then back for mince pies

The Kigstanding Forum are hoping to develop the area known by local children as "Conker Island" on Warren farm Road, it's a very large traffic island that used to be home to about 20/30 pre-fab's years ago, it is now looking sad and worn out and in need of some T.L.C.

The forum have been able to acquire a small amount of funding to make a start on giving the island a new lease of life, we are having a feasibility study by the parks dept to cost the project before we carry out consultations with the local community. To get the project started we are hoping to install some benches and repair some of the pathways as soon as possible. We are also going to plant 5000 spring bulbs with the help of local schools. This is taking place on Monday 13th November and Tuesday 14th November. All the 6 schools in Kingstanding are sending some children to take part. We also have young people from the Youth Inclusion project.

What is good about working together like this is it creates a sense of community and for some of our younger volunteers it is their first taste of active citizenship.

We shall be asking local residents what they would like to see on "Conker Island" if we are successful in securing more funding. Like elsewhere in Kingstanding, Warren Farm Road has it's share of problems but we hope that with a little thought and understanding and help from residents and working with other agencies throughout the area we can make something of this project for all people.

At a recent meeting of the Housing Liaison Board Mr Duncan Newton explained that the Kingstanding Neighbourhood Office at Rough Road were able to deal with a variety of aspects including financial advice and disability benefits advice. You will also be able to talk to an advisor concerning any debts or arrears. There are 179 different enquiries that a member of staff is able to help you with. Street wardens are also based at KNO at Rough road and FREE mouse poison can be obtained if you have problems with mice. The KNO is there to offer advice to tenants residence and owner ocupiers.

The Annual General Meeting of the Housing Liaison Board will be held on Thursday 16th November 2006 at 6:30 pm at Kingstanding Leisure Centre Dulwich road in hall 8.

The forum are organising another Community Watch walk on Saturday the 11th of November starting outside Ralph Balow Gardens on Dulwich road at 3:0pm.
In respect of the ongoing project to develop the Warren Farm Road island oposite Christ The King chuch local agencies have invited children from all local schools to plant spring bulbs on the island during the day time on Monday November 13th and Tuesday 14th

The next meeting of the steering group will be on Tuesday 31st October at Kingstanding Leisure centre at 6:0 clock. Please come along and join us. All are welcome. The aim of the steering group are to get the best for Kingstanding and ensure a better future for all. On Tuesday daytime members of the group have been invited to a meeting with our close neighbours at Perry Common community centre who are part of Witton Lodge Community Association whose aims are community regeneration.

The forum have had tremendous support and encouragement from the local police. The forum has always found total support in relation to reports of incidences and all residents problems which have been brought to our attention. In saying this, ourselves and the local police, can only act in such matters when they are brought to our attention. We look forward to continuing our part in this and will always give full attention to residents who contact us in regard to these relevant matters. Both we and the local police recognise that Rome wasn't built in a day but if we all work together we are sure that for the residents of Kingstanding tomorrow can be a better day.

The forum are already enjoying the support of local traders in Kingstanding and more are welcome. Like myself it is far easier to visit any of these such as the one I visited this morning Kingstanding Hardware which is conveniently next to the library at the circle. Though parking is heavily restricted the service was excellent.
